^lpt^aNeste artigo o tema dos estados limites é explorado, dentre outros aspectos, à luz de um contraponto entre narcisismo e auto-erotismo. Busca-se, assim, desdobrar, e de certa forma ultrapassar, a clássica idéia de “falha narcísica”, supostamente determinante nessas patologias. Noções como a de apoio e desamparo são ferramentas importantes nessa reflexão, cujo ponto de partida é a própria questão de limite em psicanálise. Supõe-se uma marcante servidão ao outro interno nos estados limites, o que estaria além de uma indiscriminação com o objeto.^len^aIn this paper the borderline states are studied, among other features, in the light of a counterpoint between narcissism and auto-erotism. Thus the author tries to develop and in a way to overtake the classic idea of a “narcissistic fault”, assumedly prevalent in these pathologies. Notions like support and helplessness are important tools in this reflection whose starting point is the issue of borders in psychoanalysis in itself. A remarkable bondage to the inner other is supposed in the borderline states, and this would be beyond the indiscrimination to the object.
