^lpt^aO artigo explora aspectos metapsicológicos da fruição estética. Embora se situe em uma perspectiva freudiana, afasta-se de suas concepções mais estritas sobre a arte. Questiona os contornos do fenômeno estético e explora uma experiência-limite nesse terreno: a Síndrome de Stendhal, distúrbio que acomete turistas em visitação a Florença e outras cidades de arte. Por fim, expõe alguns paradoxos presentes na experiência estética comum, organizados em torno do eixo captura/desatamento.^len^aThis paper explores metapsychological aspects of aesthetic fruition. Although my theoretical framework is located within a Freudian perspective, this paper moves away from his strict conceptions of art. It challenges the boundaries of the aesthetic phenomenon and inquires into the Stendhal syndrome: an experience of being on the brink. Stendhal syndrome is a disorder that befalls on tourists visiting Florence and other art- oriented cities. This paper exposes some of the paradoxes present in the common aesthetic experience which are organized around the capture/disengaging axis.
