^lpt^aEste artigo visa discutir alguns tópicos fundamentais acerca dos cuidados necessários para o êxito do processo psicoterápico a partir do referencial psicanalítico winnicottiano. Revendo conceitos como a preocupação materna primária, as principais funções maternas e a mãe suficientemente boa, utiliza-se uma analogia entre as unidades mãe/bebê e terapeuta / paciente, ressaltando similaridades, funções análogas e diferenças entre as condições e os papéis de cada um. Conclui-se que cabe ao terapeuta tanto a responsabilidade de ir ao encontro das necessidades do paciente como a de cuidar dos dispositivos necessários para o cumprimento desta tarefa, principalmente no atendimento de pacientes que sofreram falhas ambientais graves no início de suas vidas.^len^aThis paper, based on Winnicott’s psychoanalytical theory, intend to discuss some fundamental topics on the functioning of the psychotherapy process in terms of primary maternal preoccupation, identification of the patient’s dependence type, pre-verbal communication and the counter-transference analysis. Some of his concepts as the main maternal functions and the good-enough mother are discussed in order to point some essentials psychotherapist ’s responsibilities and roles concerning the process of psychotherapy. An analogy between the unities mother/baby and psychotherapist/patient is used to discriminate some similarities, specific functions and different roles and conditions of each. We concluded that the psychotherapist has both responsibilities: to attend the needs of the patient and to look after and persecute his own necessary instruments in order to be able to fulfill this target of being “a good enough psychotherapist”.
