^lpt^aOs estudos psicanalíticos sobre a maternidade revelam a importante influência da relação da mulher com a figura materna sobre as vivências emocionais relacionadas ao desempenho do papel materno. Antigos relacionamentos conflitivos e infelizes com a própria mãe estão geralmente na base de intensas angústias experimentadas pela mulher em sua condição materna. Pela análise do caso de uma mulher em sua primeira experiência de maternidade, este artigo pretendeu demonstrar que apesar dessa influência, existe a possibilidade de a maternidade converter-se em uma experiência psicologicamente transformadora e capaz de promover um efeito “curativo” para a mãe, ajudando-a a superar parcialmente seus primitivos conflitos com a própria mãe. O caso exemplifica a possibilidade de a maternidade atuar como uma “experiência emocional corretiva”.^len^aPsychoanalytical studies on maternity show the important influence of the woman’s relationship with maternal figure upon the emotional experience related to the performance of the maternal care. Past conflictive and unhappy relationships with her own mother are usually the basis of intense anguishes experienced by the woman in her maternal role. Through the analysis of a case of a woman in her first experience of maternity, this paper aims to demonstrate that, in spite of this influence, it is possible that maternity works as a changing psychological experience and being able to promote a “curative” result to the mother, helping her to partially resolve past conflicts with her own mother. The case exemplifies that maternity can act as a “corrective emotional experience”.
