AUTUORI, Marina. A History of Psychology Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. []. , 34, 86, pp.7-23. ISSN 1415-711X.

This article aims to promote the history of the Institute of Psychology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro ( UFRJ) telling a bit of its trajectory. The Institute of Psychology was created by Law 452 of July 5, 1937 when it became part of the University of Brazil ( current UFRJ ) . However , according to an article titled "Radecki and Psychology in Brazil " (1982 ) Rogerio Centofanti , we can find its origins in the Laboratory of Psychology of Psychopaths Colony , now Institute Nise da Silveira. The early history of the Institute of Psychology at UFRJ merges with the history of the Laboratory's Colony Psychopaths. The Laboratory since its inception in 1924 and until 1932 , was directed by psychologist Polish Waclaw Radecki (1887-1953) who had established residence in Brazil in 1923 . Since its inception , the Laboratory also aimed beyond the experimental research activities and production and dissemination of scholarly work , the creation of a training center for psychologists. Training courses for psychologists did not exist in Brazil at this period. The first training course for psychologists in Rio de Janeiro was given by the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC Rio) in 1953 as a specialization, and in 1954 as a degree course. The training of psychologists at PUC Rio began before the regulation of the profession , which occurred in 1962 . After the regulation of the profession of psychologist, several psychology courses were created . The first training course for psychologists from the Psychology Institute of UFRJ occurred only in 1964. Various institutional, political and social factors contributed to the creation of the course of Psychologist at the Psychology Institute of UFRJ, and in this article we will learn the details of this story.
