MONTEIRO, Daiane Daitx; REICHOW, Jeverson Rogério Costa; SAIS, Elenice de Freitas    FERNANDES, Fernanda de Souza. Spirituality / Religiosity and Mental Health in Brazil: a review. []. , 40, 98, pp.129-139. ISSN 1415-711X.

The theme of religiosity and spirituality is still an issue little discussed among mental health professionals. In Brazil, religion has always been something inherent to the population. This research aimed to make a bibliographic review on the SciELO electronic journals portal of articles published in recent years in the area of psychology in Brazil, pointing to the vision of the relationship between spirituality / religiosity and mental health. Using Boolean search terms: spirituality and religiosity and applying filters by country, area of knowledge, type of literature, 13 articles were found in total between the years 2008 to 2019. Initially, the article aims to historically contextualize the relationship between spirituality / religiosity and mental health, conceptualizes spirituality, religiosity and religious / spiritual coping and points out the importance of spirituality / religiosity in clinical practice. Then, it identifies the studies found, ending with the discussion and conclusion. In general, the studies contemplate the importance of the theme and its influence on the mental health of people's lives as a coping resource. Thus, the importance of including the spiritual / religious aspect in the academic and professional training of those working in the mental health area is highlighted, as it is considered that patients have such needs that can be identified and addressed. Furthermore, recognizing the well-being that this aspect provides to patients is providing humanized care.

: mental health; coping; spirituality; religiosity.
