^lpt^aO presente texto, com base no pensamento de Winnicott acerca da etiologia do autismo discute a relação do estado emocional da mãe com as falhas do ambiente associadas ao surgimento dessa patologia na criança. Destaca a ênfase dada por esse autor ao ódio inconsciente da mãe pelo bebê, bem como à defesa materna contra esse sentimento, no estudo etiológico. Atenta para a possibilidade de esse sentimento de ódio advir do desamparo na maternidade, apontando a necessidade materna de sustentação emocional pelo seu ambiente próximo.^len^aThe present text, based on Winnicott's thought about the aetiology of autism, discusses the relation of the mother's emotional state with the environmental failures related to the appearance of this pathology in the child. It emphasizes the focus given by this author to the unconscious hatred of the mother of her baby, also showing the mother's protection against this feeling in the actiology. It observes carefully the possibility of this feeling of hatred being suceeded from the abandonment in the motherhood, marking the mother's necessity of emotional sustentation for the environment around her.
