Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases can reduce the quality of life of individuals affected by them, it happens because they can cause significant impairment in both physical and mental health of the subject. Heart disease can cause changes in the physical, mental and perceptual ability of individuals, thus reducing their quality of life in general. Objective: To discuss if there is an improvement or not in quality of life of patients after cardiac surgery. Methodology: The study was a literature review method. Articles with topics about quality of life and coronary artery bypass surgery were studied on SciELO , PubMed , Lilacs and Google Scholar databases. Results: They still don't have a consensus in the literature and studies to prove if the quality of life of these patients increases postsurgery, as this depends on many factors, such as physical activity. Conclusion: We strongly recommend studies in this area to obtain more consistent data on quality of life after surgical achievement. In addition, we suggest more studies about quality of life and cardiac surgery in the area of psychology, since most studies were made by nurses and it's just a little contemplated in psychology.
