The NICU is characterized by being a highly technological environment, prioritizing the care of the physical health of the newborn. Therefore, this article was developed as from the academic and professional experience of psychological practice in Neonatal ICU of a university hospital in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, a reference in newborns treatment and care. Fragments of individual and group care will be approached and understood through the psychoanalytic referential. The proposed interventions highlight the psychological support to parents through holding, that is, the support of their emotional needs.
