DUARTE, Laís    HARTMANN, Silvana Pinto. The autonomy of the patient with chronic kidney disease: perceptions of the patient and the health team. []. , 21, 1, pp.92-111. ISSN 1516-0858.

Questioning regarding the autonomy of the chronic renal patient in the decision process in face of the treatment and the vision of the health team on this topic motivated the elaboration of this study. Considering the changes perceived in life and routine of these patients, due to the dialytic treatment, a reflection on the possibilities of choice and autonomy of the patient regarding their health condition arises. This study aimed to evaluate the autonomy of chronic renal patients in face of the dialysis treatment and the perception of the health team in face of this process. The design of this research is qualitative, with a semi-structured interview for 12 patients and 3 professionals of the team of a Dialysis Unit of a Private Hospital about the subject under study. Results suggest that chronic kidney patients recognize they have little autonomy in the process of adhering to their treatment, participating passively and often influenced by suggestion of the team, due to the emergency nature for immediate onset of treatment. The team, on the other hand, recognizes the right of the patient's autonomy towards adherence to treatment, but has difficulty accepting non-adherence, understanding it as a matter of denial of the disease.
