^lpt^aDepois de situar brevemente o tema do espelho do rosto materno no contexto do que Winnicott escreve sobre o desenvolvimento afetivo da criança e Lacan sobre o estádio do espelho na constituição do eu, o artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre as principais metamorfoses do espelho do rosto materno na formação do self, analisando sucessivamente suas vicissitudes como espelho mágico, espelho-vidro e espelho verdadeiro e suas implicações teóricas no processo da formação do falso e do verdadeiro self da criança.^len^aAfter briefly situating the theme on the mirror of mother's face within the context what Winnicott describes about the child's affective development and Lacan on the mirror phase in the construction of the ego, the objective of the paper is to reflect on the principal metamorphoses of the reflection of the mirror of the mother's face in the formation of the self, analyzing their vicissitudes progressively as the Magic Mirror, Glass Mirror and the True Mirror and the theoretical implications in the formation process of the child's false and true self.
