PEREIRA, Marilia Luiz; BORDINI, Daniela    MARCELO. Reports of mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder in a group setting. []. , 17, 2, pp.56-64. ISSN 1519-0307.  https://doi.org/10.5935/cadernosdisturbios.v17n2p56-64.

Research has shown that the characteristics of children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), such as difficulties of communication and social interaction, stereotyped behavior as well as the restricted repertoire of interests and activities make an impact on families requiring readjustments in the family dynamics. The chronic condition of this disorder, the demand for specialized long-term care and the level of dependence of these children overwhelm parents increasing their level of stress. OBJECTIVE: To take care of parents of children with ASD in a psychodynamic group setting. METHOD: Weekly psychodynamic groups of parents (mothers) of children with ASD for six months (November 2016 - May 2017). All therapy sessions were transcribed and qualitatively analysed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The present study reports the reflections on the impact and significance of ASD in the lives of these families and the challenges of being parents of a child who has difficulties of communication and relational deficits. It was established a space of reflection and insight that allowed a greater understanding of issues related to ASD and its consequences for family functioning.
