SOUZA, RENATO FERREIRA DE. Pandemic and social distancing: impacts on human identity. []. , 23, 57, pp.331-344.   07--2024. ISSN 2175-1390.

The article discusses the collective implications of social distancing on the construction of individuals’ identities. This psychosocial category - identity - proved to be useful in enabling the understanding of the way in which the abrupt interactive and relational reorganization of the social web, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, added to the suffering and unpleasantness of the subjects faced with the hardships of the political, health, social and economic situation in the country, objectively impacted the “world of life” and, consequently, people’s subjectivity and psyche. Furthermore, the manuscript shows that, during this period, especially in Brazil, the intensification of the ideologically productivist and self-interested discourse of the “systemic order” contributed to worsening people’s suffering, negatively impacting their constitutive identity processes.

: Covid-19; social isolation; social distancing; identity; collective behaviors.
