^lpt^aA influência da família no tratamento de pacientes com doenças crônicas é um tema bastante relevante, em especial no que se refere às diferenças culturais e na forma de aceitar/viver com a doença. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar a influência da família no tratamento de pacientes com doenças crônicas, analisando as características psicológicas, e as estratégias de enfrentamento que a família e paciente utilizam para lidar com esta realidade. Esta pesquisa é uma revisão bibliográfica de publicações em português no período entre 2007 a 2016. Concluiu-se que o paciente doente crônico tende a não adoecer sozinho, a sua família adoece junto. Percebe-se que a família mobiliza-se para vivenciar este momento, enfrentar os problemas que se relacionam diretamente com a dinâmica familiar, e a partir disso, são criadas e buscadas estratégias para conviver com a doença, para que a aceitação da doença e as perdas que esta possa trazer, sejam contornadas e o sujeito doente crônico possa viver com a doença de maneira  mais funcional possível em sua atual realidade.^len^aThe influence of family in the treatment of patients with chronic diseases is a rather significant subject, especially regarding the cultural differences and the way of accepting and living with the disease. The objective of this research was to investigate the influence of family in the treatment of patients with chronic diseases, analyzing the psychological characteristics and the coping strategies used by the patient and his family to handle this reality. This research is a literature review of publications in Portuguese, period of 2007 to 2016. We concluded that the chronic patient does not tend to fall sick alone, his family fall sick together. We perceived that the family also mobilize itself to experience this moment, facing the problems related directly to the family dynamics. From this, strategies are searched and created to live with the disease, so its acceptance and the losses it may bring are bypassed; so that the chronic patient may have the most functional possible life in his current reality.
