ROSA, Claudia Dias. An example of the analyst's role as a father: the Patrick case. []. , 7, 1, pp.1-15. ISSN 1679-432X.
Using an example of a clinical case by Winnicott - that of a fourteen year-old boy named Patrick - reported in his Psychoanalytic Explorations (1989a/1994), I will make explicit aspects of the role of the analyst as a father. In this case, through therapeutic sessions with the boy and interviews with the mother, Winnicott gathered important information and used mostly handling techniques to get on with the development of the treatment and help the boy's mother to cope with the necessary regression of her son, as well as managing school businesses and other activities of Patrick's life during the whole period in which he was ill, until he as able to recover progressive movements towards maturing and independence.
