Abstract The Social representations work as reference systems for classifying people or social groups; they also established contact with the language and ideology, acting as a key role in guiding behavior and social practices. So, this study aims to understand and analyze the social representations that permeate the imaginary teachers and mothers about learning and development of children with Down syndrome. To catch some information, interviews were conducted with quantitative of 05 teachers and 05 mothers of children with Down syndrome inserted in a regular education in public municipal Santana / AP. The results indicate that representations, showed here, are still strongly focused in a conservative clinical view, which considers the dysfunction as the main factor responsible for learning and development of children with Down syndrome. Thus, these participants directing their actions and expectations, which make the inappropriate learning and development of these children. So, this study appoint such information in order to make a contribution to society, Reaffirms their concepts about the person with Down syndrome, so they can reduce the attitudinal barriers that prevent these individuals to relate to the world as active subjects, which has interactive and potential to be developed. © Cien.
