^lpt^aEste artigo tem por objetivo fazer uma reflexão sobre algumas contribuições das chamadas Neurociências para o estudo da relação entre o afeto e a cognição. Buscou-se discutir a independência e/ou a integração dos sistemas cerebrais subjacentes a determinados processos afetivos e cognitivos, através da seleção de estudos clínicos e experimentais que abordam a relação cérebro/ mente, especialmente aqueles que apontam para algumas dissociações funcionais em pacientes com comprometimentos cerebrais, De modo complementar, foram apresentadas algumas investigações experimentais com animais, desenvolvidas no contexto das Neurociências.  Os estudos aqui apresentados, apesar de sua diversidade teórica e metodológica, parecem apontar, em sua maioria, para o importante papel regulador do afeto na cognição humana.^len^aThe objective of this article is to analyze pertinent   contributions of the Neurosciences to the study of the relationship between affect and cognition.  Through a selection of a   few clinical and experimental studies that investigates the mind-brain relationship, especially those that point out to functional dissociations in patients with cerebral damages, we intend to discuss the brain systems that are involved with certain emotional and cognitive processes. In a complementary way, we also present a few animal experimental investigations that are developed in the field of the Neurosciences. The studies that we present here, in spite of their theoretical and methodological diversity, seem to emphasize the importance of the emotions and the affects to the regulation of the human cognition.
