The sexual health of lesbian and bisexual women is characterized by historical invisibility in programmatic agendas. This study aims to describe and analyze preventive strategies and risk perception regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) of Brazilian lesbian and bisexual women. It is a mixed sequential study. The non-probability and convenience sample consisted of 1,225 lesbian and bisexual women (quantitative stage) and 12 of these women were interviewed (qualitative stage). Descriptive, inferential and thematic analyses were performed. The results indicate a mismatch between the STIs described as more prevalent by the participants and those described in the literature, which can impact health care. The higher the level of education, the greater the number of STIs reported as possible to be acquired in sex between women, which may indicate inequalities in access to information. The participants perceived a risk of STIs in their practices, but the lack of available and effective information on prevention, as well as the lack of specific inputs for lesbian sex, characterized their speeches and impacted the way they live their sexuality.
