SANT'ANNA, Paulo Afranio. Archetype, individuation and intersubjectivity: the psychosocial dimension of human suffering. []. , 14, 4, pp.1-12. ISSN 1809-8908.

The present article begins with a brief contextualization of Analytical Psychology indicating the historical conditions of its emergence and development, the different terminologies and perspectives adopted in its study and the challenges imposed by contemporary society and science. It presents the concepts of archetype and individuation evidencing its transformation throughout the process of theoretical construction of Jung. From these concepts, it seeks to identify the current archetypal constellations and to problematize the relation between contemporary historical-cultural conditions and human suffering. It resorts to two categories of Historical Sociology, modernity and postmodernity, to understand the I-OTHERS relationship in the intra and intersubjective levels and to demonstrate compensatory collective patterns in pathologies, political phenomena and contemporary artistic manifestations. It analyzes processes of differentiation and integration evidencing the importance of intersubjectivity in the process of individuation. It ends by exploring the development of the individual and of society in the next generations.
