BONFIM, Flavia    SCHECHTER, Rosa. Criticism to the Universal Category of "Woman": For an Articulation between Feminism and Psychoanalysis. []. , 16, 3, pp.1-16. ISSN 1809-8908.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the universal category "woman" as a representation of feminism in an effort to think a possible contact between the feminism and psychoanalysis. We start by the psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan's aphorism about the feminine, "The Woman does not exist". We then discuss Judith Butler's criticism about the inexistence of the subject that feminism aims to represent. This is because, according to her, at its inception the movement dissociated gender from racial, class and ethnic issues. As an example of these neglected issues, we highlight black feminism as one of the deadlocks of the universalizing discourse within the feminist movement. We conclude that both Lacan and Butler, with the particularities of their theoretical productions, denounce the precariousness of a "woman" identity.
