This article presents a reflection about the necessity to insert post-colonial thought and subaltern studies in psycho-sociological researches, aiming to consolidate new methodological approaches that may guide the translation of self-representation narratives of social minorities. This discussion is exemplified by texts of two medium women, members of African-Brazilian religion Umbanda. Those texts deal with the spiritual entities "Preto-velho" and "Pomba-gira". Such narratives show the inscription of subaltern voices, both in overcoming the history of social-cultural oppression and marginalization and in denouncing oppressive mechanisms that built and build the subaltern condition.
