The present study had the object of analyzing the conflicts that Dominican immigrants face in their daily lives. Four focus groups were designed and carried out, two groups consisting of youths and the other two of adults. Data provided by the focus groups was analyzed with content analysis, establishing four analytical categories: perception of the Dominican community, discrimination towards the community, intergenerational differences, intercultural conflict and its solutions. The presence of discrimination was supported by the findings, generally manifested by the police, government, and media. There are diverse instances of discrimination, although mostly subtle in nature. The main solution to the conflict, provided by the focus groups, was education. Further research is proposed, particularly analyzing coping strategies of immigrants.

: Immigration; intercultural conflict; Dominican community.
