The aim of this study was to identify anxiety symptoms in pre-surgery bariatric patients and to compare them with the control group and between genders. It is a quantitative, correlational, comparative study with a sample of 81 participants. A socio-demographic questionnaire, Trait-State Anxiety Inventory (IDATE) and Anxiety Symptom Intensity Scale (LIS-A) were used. In the pre-bariatric group (n=31), the mean of the women's IDATE was 39,18 and 34,18 in the LIS-A, and for the men 30,67 and 19,33 respectively. In the control group (n=50), the mean number of women was 37,07 in IDATE and 35,58 in HIS-A, and 34,60 and 22,53 in men. There was a higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms in women, but there was no significant difference in mean anxiety scores between the two groups.
