^lpt^aAs mídias digitais (MD) desencadearam mudanças nas relações familiares e têm preocupado os pais devido ao uso excessivo e as dificuldades para supervisão dos filhos. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar como as MD incidem na relação entre pais e filhos adolescentes. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva com 12 tríades (N=36), formadas pelo casal e o filho adolescente. Os participantes foram selecionados por conveniência, responderam um questionário sociodemográfico e uma entrevista semiestruturada. Os dados da entrevista foram submetidos à análise temática através da qual emergiram dois temas: (1) dinâmica relacional de pais e filhos acerca das MD: benefícios e riscos, e (2) estratégias utilizadas pelo subsistema parental no manejo das MD. Os resultados revelam que as MD são importantes mediadoras comunicacionais nas relações entre pais e filhos. As estratégias utilizadas pelos pais envolvem tentativas de controle e supervisão do uso que os filhos fazem das mídias e se associam à dinâmica relacional de condutas restritivas e pouco reflexivas entre os membros do sistema familiar. Portanto, dificuldades, benefícios e riscos no uso das MD podem ser indicativos de como as interrelações familiares ocorrem.^len^aThe digital media (DM) have triggered changes in family relationships and has concerned parents due to overuse and difficulties in the supervision of their children. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate how DM affects the relationship between parents and adolescent children. It is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research with 12 triads (N=36), formed by the couple and the adolescent son. The participants were selected by convenience, answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The interview data were submitted to thematic analysis through which two themes emerged: (1) relational dynamics of parents and children about DM: benefits and risks and (2) strategies used by the parental subsystem in the management of DM. The results reveal DM are important communicational mediators in the relationship between parents and children. The strategies used by parents involve attempts to control and supervise their children's use of technologies. These strategies are mainly associated with the relational dynamics of restrictive and poorly reflective behaviors among members of the family system. Therefore, difficulties, benefits and risks in the use of DM can be indicative of how family relationships occur.
