The present study represents a contribution to the assessment of decision-making. Contributions to ecological and construct validity of a new instrument called Card Game (CG) are presented. The CG is based on the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT). The objective of this instrument is to assess individual differences in decision-making in general population subjects. Participants: 113 subjects (48% women) with a mean age of 27.09 years (S.D. = 11.14), which completed the bet task proposed by the CG. CG results were compared with the assessment performed by external observers who had previously classified subjects as risk-takers or non-risk-prone in his usual way of making decisions in their daily lives. Choices made and profits obtained were consistent with the classification by external observers. The results show that the CG allows discriminating two strategies for decision making: risky versus safe (providing evidence for construct validity), and that these strategies correspond to the classification of external observers. The design used provides evidence for the ecological validity of the proposed task, as could predict whether a person is prone or averse to risk decisions in their everyday life.
