Autism is understood by the biomedical view as a developmental disorder that causes qualitative deficits in the interaction, communication and behavior of the child. Gestalt therapy conceives autism as a disturbance in the id function, which can causes stiffness at the contact boundaries and the interruption in the process of contacting through the fixed adjustments. This article claims to analyze the autistic functioning from the perspective of the Childhood Gestalt Clinic. For this, a bibliographic research was done through books, articles and websites on the subject, between 1995 and 2005, using autism and Childhood Gestalt Clinic indexes. Finally, it is concluded that the accompaniment offered in the clinical practice is anchored in a theoretical support that allows a relation of care, acceptance and respect to the rhythm and limit of the autistic functioning child, proposing interventions that encourage, as far as possible, the functional process of contacting.
