^lpt^aTem-se verificado, consistentemente, que a atração pela carreira docente encontra-se em declínio e a dificuldade de atrair bons profissionais para a carreira vem aumentando. O reconhecimento do trabalho pela comunidade acadêmica e por pais de alunos, a progressão na carreira e o desafio profissional, o sentimento de realização ao promover mudanças de comportamento nos alunos e o sentimento de responsabilidade foram os principais fatores identificados como relacionados à satisfação/insatisfação no trabalho. Neste contexto, este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados de uma investigação sobre as relações entre a autoeficácia docente - que é a crença do professor em realizar as tarefas necessárias para ensinar -, as condições de atuação profissional e a realização pessoal dentro do contexto da carreira acadêmica. Participaram do estudo 100 professores do Ensino Médio do Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A investigação aqui apresentada indica haver uma possibilidade de intervenção de grande importância no meio educativo, no cenário educacional.^len^aConsistently, it has been found that the attraction of pursuing a career in teaching is declining, and that it is becoming increasingly difficult to draw good professionals into the field. The main factors related to work satisfaction or dissatisfaction included the recognition (or lack thereof) of teachers' work by the academic community and students' parents, the opportunities (or lack thereof) for career advancement or professional growth, the level of accomplishment in promoting behavioural changes in students, and the feeling of responsibility. This article aims to present the results of an investigation of the relationship between teacher self-efficacy (the belief in oneself to perform necessary tasks), and the conditions of professional performance and personal achievement within the academic context. 100 high school teachers from Minas Gerais, Brazil participated in the study. The relationships discovered suggest that intervention on some of the problems identified is of great importance to the field of education.
