MIWA, Marcela Jussara. Enchantment and reception in daily life - a study of johrei and reiki. []. , 5, 1, pp.58-65. ISSN 2178-7085.

This study aimed to understand how reiki and johrei affect behavior, worldview and social relations of their followers and the facing of the health-disease process. This research was carried out in Ribeirão Preto, SP, in a Reiki Center and in a World Messianic Church, from October 2009 to January 2012. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews and notebook field. Results: both messianic church doctrine as well as the one associated with reiki, provided new meanings to issues or suffering of these subjects. The health-disease process gained other explanations and other ways to be coped with. These practices also contributed to the empowerment of its practitioners, as well as the development of greater tolerance, improving sociability. These spaces are also configured as ephemeral communities, providing embracement of their followers and facilitating the rescue of the belief in magic and of the enchantment in daily experiences.
