JORGE, Gabriela Heusi; SANTOS, Ylana Loss Coletti Moterani; PORTES, João Rodrigo Maciel  e  BOSSARDI, Carina Nunes. Parental involvement of fathers of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.101, pp.175-184. ISSN 1415-711X.

This research aimed to investigate the characteristics of paternal involvement with children diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This investigation has an exploratory and correlational descriptive character. Forty-one parents of children with ASD participated. The average age of parents was 37.98 years (SD = 8.18) and of children was 67.39 months (SD = 17.02). Parents answered the Sociodemographic Questionnaire; Paternal Engagement Questionnaire (QEP) and the World Opening Questionnaire (QOM). Quantitative analysis was performed with nonparametric descriptive and inferential statistics. In terms of involvement, parents excelled in the emotional support, evocations and discipline dimensions. Regarding openness to the world, the highest average obtained was in stimulating perseverance. Therefore, as one of the main results, it was observed that the more the parent provides gestures and words that reassure and encourage the child, the more they think, speak and / or remember the child, as well as encourage him to explore the environment and interact with him physically, through gestures and play. These characteristics demonstrate the importance of parental functions for the child development of children with ASD.
