BARBOSA, Anna Carolina Andrade. Anxiety as a clinical incident of what is non-representable in the instinct: helplessness, trauma and repetition. Reverso [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.56, pp.41-59. ISSN 0102-7395.

This investigation was brought on by doubts that have come up in my clinical practice. Both, my theoretical work and my writings as an analyst have resulted from what I have heard from my patients. These effects should return to them. I believe that it is the existing tension between the singular (the inedita that appears in what we hear from each patient) and the universal (that which all theory intends to produce) that psychoanalytic transmission can happen more vigorously and rigorously. It was in the context of my Master’s dissertation, concluded in July 2006, ‘Inscriptions and destinations of what is non-representable in drive (instinct); theoretical movements and incidents in clinical psychoanalysis’, [1] that the approximation to anxiety occurred. We have studied Freudian texts and pointed out developments in the Freudian theory on anxiety that highlight the presence of elements from the domain of what is non-representable by using movements in the concepts of helplessness, trauma, the conpulsion to repeat, and the death instinct.
