OLIVEIRA FILHO, GEOVANE DE SOUSA e NEGREIROS, FAUSTON. Schooling of blind people in Piauí: social memories and struggles for educational rights. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.58, pp.629-644. Epub 08-Jul-2024. ISSN 2175-1390.
The research aimed to analyze the search for rights of blind people in the formal education system in Piauí, as well as to understand, based on their school trajectories, the influencing elements for their insertion in the world of work. It was carried out using oral history methodology, through interviews about the schooling trajectories of 10 blind people who experienced Basic Education in the state of Piauí, Brazil. The interviews were analyzed from the critical perspective of School Psychology and through Content Analysis. The results reveal that there was a need to fight in order to guarantee rights, from the denial of enrollment, to the teaching-learning process with discriminatory and exclusionary practices. Such difficulties influenced their life plans after Basic Education. There was a need to strengthen the political identity of these people, as well as greater communication between their educational demands with legislative power and public policies for school inclusion.
