BAPTISTA, Adriana Said Daher; NEVES, Saulo Tadeu Valiero das e BAPTISTA, Makilim Nunes. Correlation between family support, mental health and irrational beliefs in an elderly religious group. Psic [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.2, pp.155-164. ISSN 1676-7314.
This research aimed to assess the correlation among the perception of family support, mental health and irrational beliefs in religious elderly persons, as well as to know the social-demographic and religious profile of the sample. 50 active catholic elderly persons, aging from 60 to 80 years old, were studied, all of them attending at a Catholic Church in a city located in the state of São Paulo. A social-demographic and religious practices Questionnaire, the Perception of Family Support Inventory (IPSF), the Short Psychiatric Evaluation Schedule (SPES-R), which assess mental health, and the Irrational Beliefs Questionnaire (QCI) were administered. The elderly people interviewed also indicated their friends to these interviews. Positive correlations were found among the affective-consistent, autonomy and IPSf's total scores, and SPES-R, as well as positive correlations between affective-consistent dimension and IPSF total punctuation with QCI. The result, the limitations and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
