BONATTO, Francisco Rogerio de Oliveira et al. Giving and receiving alms and subjective process. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.2, pp.339-362. ISSN 1677-1168.
This research in the field of Social Psychology, carried out in the context of the relations between alms givers and needy children and adolescents in Poços de Caldas - State of Minas Gerais, investigates how alms giving and receiving constitutes a subjectivity process, the way individuals - mainly adolescents - take a stand in face of themselves and the social reality. The methodology to analyze the individuals speech during the interviews was based on Mary Jane Spinks discourse analysis. Results indicate that alms givers construct an argumentation based on the impression they have of the beggars, elaborated in their relationship. On the other hand, adolescents show a tendency to consider alms an easier gain than that obtained by means of activities generally accepted by society. The language elaborated at begging, with the statements that it generates, allows adolescents to recognize themselves as individuals in the established interlocution.
