SANTOS, Hernani Pereira dos e VERISSIMO, Danilo Saretta. Relevance in Gurwisch's and Schütz's phenomenologies: contours of a problem. Rev. abordagem gestalt. [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.1, pp.115-127. ISSN 1809-6867. https://doi.org/10.18065/2022v28n1.11.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the main differences and complementarities between the perspectives of Aron Gurwitsch and Alfred Schütz regarding the relevance problem and its contributions for the general framework of a phenomenological theory of attention. The concept of relevance concerns, at the same time, the question of how, in experience, a given object of perception appears as standing out from an undifferentiated background and how this is connected to the personal experiences of a subject and to his particular way of being engaged with the world. Authors like Aron Gurwitsch and Alfred Schütz proposed a phenomenological reading of this problem. In the works of these authors, in addition to implying a phenomenological analysis of the phenomenon of attention, the phenomenon of relevance also leads to a phenomenological analysis of the lifeworld and, in particular, of the spheres or orders of existence that compose it. We conclude that Schütz's phenomenology allows an extension of Gurwitsch's phenomenological-transcendental consideration of the field of consciousness and thus places the theory of the field of consciousness in the lens of a phenomenological social psychology. This psychology can indicate paths for an analysis of attentional phenomena in contemporary society.
