This paper is a narrative review of literature that aimed to present the contributions of Community Social Psychology (PSC) to the theme of alcohol and other drug use. For that, a history was drawn up on the development of policies and normative instruments that regulate the area of alcohol and other drugs, as well as on the constitution of the PSC in the Latin American and Brazilian context and, later, a parallel between the development of these two fields . From this interface, some categories of reflection and intervention are formed that conform the PSC and related aspects, such as Critical Social Psychology and the Psychology of Liberation, being: a) praxis; b) the phenomenon of drugs as an expression of the social question; c) subject-society conception; d) the relationship with the community and the theoretical-methodological implications for professional action in the area; e) awareness as an objective; f) ethics in PSC.
