Religious practice, in prison, is the possibility of exchanging worlds. The goal is to compare the profile of prisoners who practice some kind of religious activity or who have some sense of faith with particular profiles of prisoners who do not practice any kind of religious activity, as reported not having any kind of faith. The study was quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive. The study included 287 women prisoners in a closed regime. The instruments were a questionnaire with demographic data, one about religion and the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS). The findings showed that the majority of the sample does not exhibit the symptoms of hopelessness. These data were found regarding the classification of the BHS and only 6% had symptoms of hopelessness. There is significant association between religiousness and depressive symptoms, which has measured the women who have a high level of religious participation had less depressive symptoms than those who have no involvement with such activities.
