CORCHS, Felipe. Is it possible to be a radical behaviorist psychiatrist? Preliminary reflections. Perspectivas [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.1, pp.55-66. ISSN 2177-3548.
The present paper presents some initial reflexive efforts in order to evaluate the viability of a dialogue between radical behaviorism/behavior analysis and psychiatry, taken as the branch of medicine concerned with "mental and behavioral" problems. Such an approximation, in spite of incipient, seems promising to those who have been experiencing it in practice, once it has been showing very productive in the matter of behavioral problems. Basing the reflexive efforts mainly in biological psychiatry, as well as in its main ground, the neurosciences, it is proposed that radical behaviorism could give direction to these disciplines that, in their turns, could help to understand and to study parts of the behaviors that happens in the organism, especially in terms of behavioral problems. In other words, the author supports the view that, especially in the field of the problems of behavior, such a dialogue would give much help in the improvement of both areas and that the distinction between them is not as clear as it has been taken.
