MICCIONE, Mariana; GRAUBEN, Assis e COSTA, Thiago Dias. Controlling variables of ordinal response: Revisiting empirical studies. Perspectivas [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.2, pp.130-148. ISSN 2177-3548.
The pragmatic determiners of concepts related to ordinal responding were verified. Their levels of instrumentality were investigated through the specification of controlling variables in procedures applied in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. The keywords serial learning, repeated acquisition, chaining, behavioral chain, ordinal classes, sequence and order/ordering, determinate the search in scientific journals databanks and books. Six different groups were organized, according to the similarities in their titles and abstracts. Eighty two papers were selected, 14 national articles, 65 foreign and 3 book chapters, 1 national and 2 foreign. It was possible to access into of three groups named repeated acquisition, ordinal relations (without describe the ordinal proprieties) and ordinal relations (with proprieties) common information in all studies. The behavior-analytical model of response chains seemed evident in studies of the four first groups. Therefore, the verification of procedure variations made it possible to organize and bound the variables involved in studies of this area. It was observed that the use of a term can be defined by the context in which the knowledge is produced, because the determinants of a scientific term are products of the complexity of a social context that engenders changes in the treatment of a study object.
