SOFIO, Fernanda. Art and body are the same: .S. dance in the 20th Century. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2017, vol.40, n.64, pp.103-116. ISSN 0101-3106.
In the tradition of a self-definition for each art, I consider dance as a tripod: visual forms produced by a human body and rhythmic transitions, which interpret the music and/or silence. Such a definition establishes a common terrain for many dialogues about dance, and it is from this perspective that I discuss the poïeses of choreographers Martha Graham, Lucinda Childs and Trisha Brown. It also permits to think about dance, both modern and postmodern, as post-medium, in the sense discussed by Rosalind Krauss (1999) in her reading of Clement Greenberg (1960/1993). Krauss's idea is that postmodern art becomes post-medium, which she investigates in Broodthaers - his inaugural visual work dates of 1964. In fact, this characteristic may be observed in U.S. dance productions since Martha Graham.
