NIFA, Sabrina  e  RUDNICKI, Tânia. Renal cronic patients depression and hemodialysis. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2010, vol.13, n.1, pp.64-75. ISSN 1516-0858.

This study followed an observational and descriptive data collected in a Private Clinic of Dialysis, Porto Alegre, where 74 ill renal patients underwent hemodialysis. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was applied individually identifying and assessing the intensity of depressive symptoms in 30 kidneys diseased. Symptoms of depression are often diagnosed in these patients, symptoms that affect their adherence and quality of life, negatively affecting the course of the disease. No difference was found for BDI scores between men and women. Mild symptoms were observed (23.3%) and moderate (10%) of depression, 66.7% of participants had a minimum level of depression. The presence of depressive symptoms among chronic kidney disease is important and deserves to be recognized and treated promptly because their presence can change the prognosis and treatment adherence.
