SOUZA, Maíra Gabriela Santos de e PUENTE-PALACIOS, Katia. Validation and testing of a professional selfconcept scale. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2007, vol.7, n.2, pp.95-114. ISSN 1984-6657.
Selfconcept is defined as a set of attitudes and beliefs that an individual has in regard to himself. Researches defend the existence of an image of "me" related to the work. The purpose of this paper was to validate a professional selfconcept scale, having as a background an existing one. Two studies were developed. In the first, data were collected out of a sample of 505 graduate and post-graduate students and in the second, the sample was constituted of 405 workers. The questionnaire of the first study was built on 49 items answered in frequency Likert scale of 5 points. KMO value (0,86) and Bartlett's test of sphericity indicated that factor analyze was possible. For extraction of factors, it was used the method Principal Axis Factoring (PAF) - Promax rotation. The factorial solution was composed of 5 factors (37 items) explaining 45,24% of the variance with Cronbach's alpha ranging from 0,88 to 0,55. Adopting the same criteria, the scale of study 2 was composed of 28 items distributed in 4 factors (accomplishment, competency, self-confidence and healthy), explaining 49,7% of the variance with alphas between 0,76 and 0,90. Results indicate confiability of scale in capturing the phenomena and showing that used procedures in scale construction were valid and efficient
