SOUZA, Mauricio Rodrigues de  e  MERCES, Raphael Santos das. Freud, Alterity and the Masses: From Metapsychology to Ethics. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.1, pp.1-11. ISSN 2359-0769.  https://doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v21i1.e10887.

This paper aims to discuss the notion of alterity in Freud and its implications. For that, it started from theoretical research that privileged a particular text. It is about the Psychology of the Masses and Analysis of the Self, which, by means of meta-psychological concepts, such as those of libido and identification, traces a line of reasoning about the difference that flows fluidly between terrains apparently as disparate as those of the individual and the collective. In terms of results, it highlights how much the Freudian perspective points to a self that is constituted not by means of some naive and potentially harmful solipsism but from the interactions that it inevitably establishes with another that presents itself in a myriad of quite varied images. In conclusion, it reaffirms both the scope and the importance of the displacement promoted by Freud in his deal with the question of alterity as it provides a supplementary perspective concerning current discourses, thus revealing more complex levels of sensitivity about difference beyond mere referentiality within predetermined webs of meaning.

Palavras-chave : alterity; freudian thinking; mass psychology.
