This article evaluates the structure of a pre-school teacher training program used by Projeto Caixa de Brinquedos (Toy-box Project), which aimed at introducing play to the educational institutions` pedagogical project, as well as understanding the importance of play to child development. Questionnaires of reaction evaluation were filled by 485 teachers and analyzed. The data were organized by analysis categories. Among the main results, a significant number of teachers had no previous knowledge about play (40%), and most of them considered that the subjects included in the training program were important and applicable to their jobs (96,1% and 90,7%, respectively). These results indicate that this kind of training program can cover up deficiencies in teachers' educational qualification in what concerns the function of play in human development and how to introduce it in pre-schools routine activities in a systematized and consistent way.
