The present article analyzes the central issue concerning the accomplishment of socio-educational measures: the encounter between an adult and an adolescent. The adult in this case means either the socio-educational security agent, who plays an essential role in the execution of detention and semi-liberty measures in the state of Minas Gerais, or the educator in the socio-educational French context. The relation between adult and adolescent will be understood in the light of the concepts of identification and authority. Looking to practical experiences we aim to investigate different speaking modes presented in this relationship and its effects on the institutional matter of the distinction of places. The analysis of the role of the adult, which may oscillate between "war" and "nothing" in relation to the young person contributes to the comprehension of the difference and their accountability in institutions
