Work is the main human activity, since it guides and, at the same time, is part of peoples identity. Besides that, work is lifes main regulator, considering that individuals organize schedules and family and social relationships according to it. In this context, retirement can represent a rupture with the formal professional role; instead of being lived as a deserved rest, it can mean a threatening situation to the client´s psychological balance. However, nuances and differences in the meaning and ways of facing such a situation must be highlighted, considering the economic level and the social cultural factors that workers are submitted to. Considering the psychologists role inside work organizations as of a professional who aims to improve the workers quality of life, the objective of this paper is to propose programs reflection and preparation for retirement that include thinking of alternatives to cope with and face the situations of psychological strain that can occur in that period.
