D' AUGUSTIN, Juliana Furtado; PINHO, Vanessa Dordron de  e  FALCONE, Eliane Mary de Oliveira. Assesment of anger and social skills in eating disorders. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2017, vol.13, n.2, pp.113-121. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20170016.

The aim of this study was to assess anger levels and social skills in women with bulimia nervosa (BN) and binge eating disorder (BED). The sample consisted of 21 individuals with bulimia nervosa and 25 individuals with BED, compared to a control group, consisting of 21 individuals with age and education compatible with the experimental group. The following questionnaires were used: a) State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (S.T.A.X.I.); b) Bulimic Investigatory Test of Edinburgh (BITE); c) Binge Eating Scale (BES); d) Empathy Inventory (EI); e) Social Skills Inventory (SSI). The results have shown that women with BN and BED have higher levels of dysfunctional anger when compared to normal controls. Besides that, they also have higher deficits in social skills. Both dysfunctional anger as deficits in social skills were related to greater severity of dysfunctional eating behavior. Such results points out to the importance of considering these variables in these disorder treatments.

Palavras-chave : Anger; social skills; eating disorders.
