This article discusses the process of family resilience in relation to the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) in old age. It aims to study the aging process with the presence of PD; analyze the concepts of autonomy and resilience; and to discuss changes in family dynamics and the importance of resilience to PD. The theoretical references used were the systemic and concepts developed by Lifespan Psychology. The elderly, when diagnosed with PD, in addition to coping with the changes that result from old age, need to deal with the incapacities resulting from the disease. In addition, his family needs readaptation and readjustment in the organization of daily tasks and care, but also in relation to family roles. We also emphasize the concepts of autonomy and dependence proposed by Margret Baltes. Based on the definition of Walsh's family resilience we discuss the coping strategies of the elderly and their family system. It was possible to reflect on the suffering of the elderly with PD, the resources that he and his family put in to face the disease and its repercussion in the family dynamics. We also reflect on the role of psychology in this process, noting that it is a field that has not yet been explored.
