In childhood, the role of psychomotricity is of fundamental importance for the development and learning of children and involves: emotional, cognitive and motor aspects. This work addresses the topic of psychomotor development and its relationship to learning, with the objective to verify if in the 1st year of elementary school the child is already able, under the psychomotor view, to begin with the formal school, since children with psychomotor changes are a risk factor for learning disabilities. The work is based on the psychomotor evaluation of 17 children of both genders, in an age range of 6 years and 1 month and 7 years and 2 months with a mean age of 6 years and 2 months, attending the 1st year of a School Hall, located in an inland city of São Paulo state. To evaluate the psychomotor profile this work was divided into three steps that assessed aspects related to the functional units. As a result, we got an underperform for equilibrium, imitation, recognition and naming of own and others body parts, decoupling of movements, speed and motor accuracy. But better performance of male subjects in relation to female, only in decoupling of movements and performance beyond expectations of all those involved in rhythmic skills. Conclusion was that under the psychomotor point of view the children were not yet ready to start with the reading and writing.
