RUTSATZ, Suélen do Nascimento Barbieri  e  CAMARA, Sheila Gonçalves. Psychologists in Public Health: trajectories and perceptions in the conq est of this space. Aletheia [online]. 2006, n.23, pp.55-64. ISSN 1413-0394.

This research aimed to describe the trajectory, the professional experience and the perceptions of the psychologists who act in Public Health in 16ª Regional Health Coordination in the Region of the Valley of Taquari - RS. For that purpose an epidemiologic inquiry was proposed to 23 psychologists, who represent 60.5% of the professional population. The results had demonstrated that the psychologists are satisfied with their contribution in the field of Public Health. They believe to be fulfilling their role, despite the difficulties perceived regarding the service users (community) and the work team. The contact with issues of mental health in Public Health propitiates personal consuming in the daily interventions, generating difficulties in relation to the community (users) and especially to the team. The psychologists do not show a critical position in relation to their performance and to the public policies concerning this field, which causes professional depreciation and loss of performance space. It is necessary to reevaluate the work-study programs of Psychology regarding the social communitarian commitment of Psychology giving rise to a larger systematization of actions founded upon the pillars of promotion, prevention and recovery of health.
