MIRANDA, Rodrigo Caetano e ARAUJO, Tereza Cristina Cavalcanti Ferreira de. Scope and limitations of information and communication technology in health:: a study about health professionals. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2012, vol.15, n.2, pp.33-45. ISSN 1516-0858.
Progressively, the health use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expands, aiming to provide services, disseminating technical-scientific knowledge and the popular knowledge inclusion. Considering the interest in this theme, we investigated the perceptions of health professionals about the range and limitations of the internet in their daily work routine. The online questionnaire was answered by 39 health professionals. Regardless of the profession, 94,9% of the respondents stated that they used the internet daily and 64.1% reported often reading online health information. As for health sites reliability, 92,1% believes that many are unreliable, but 80% also recognized the existence of many reliable sites. The analysis indicated that 34.2% of respondents frequently deal with e-health consumers. In these situations, 73.7% rely on their expertise to answer questions, 55.3% help the patient to analyze the information and 34.2% recommended trusted sites. It is recommended further research with Brazilian samples.
